We are very excited to announce our new Bee a Steward Kit Program, where underserved community members will get free hand-on kits to do at home. We will serve intergenerational community members in high needs areas that might not otherwise have access to programs or activities that provide quality E-STEM education about the natural world, eliminating any barriers for inclusion. Each activity in the kit is designed to be completed in tandem with another person, thus bringing family and/or “friend pods” of different ages and generations together to facilitate meaningful experiences while deepening relationships, as well as fostering connection, mentorship and creative expression. As always, our goal is to raise awareness about struggling bee populations and their importance, along with concrete stewardship activities that provide a sense of purpose and hope for the future. The activities are deliberately designed to empower people to make a difference for the environment. The Bee a Steward Kits would include access to an instructional video, building and engineering native bee houses, seed ball making, pollinator garden projects, two books (one for an adult and one for a child), honey samples for tasting, crafts such as bee pipe cleaners, pretend pollen, and games for children, handouts for activities such as scavenger hunts and coloring pages, crayons, various bee or honey related items from donors, access to our online portal containing even more activities as well as other online resources. These resources will include fun, engaging activities like worksheets, citizen science projects such as the Great Sunflower Project or iNaturalist, bee education, and more. The children's book will be accompanied by an online read-along in English and in Spanish. Activities included in this kit will be designed to bring people into nature and perform an act of stewardship as a healing and empowering activity while strengthening bonds within their family or “pod” at home. It feels great to help the world!
