Sunshine for Seniors is a community service project founded in 2020 by Madison Zantello, Miss Seattle’s Outstanding Teen 2020, for the Miss America Organization. During this time of quarantine due to Covid-19, seniors in Assisted Living have had to quarantine in their buildings now for nine months, and at times of a building outbreak are on lockdown in their rooms for two weeks at a time. Madison has seen the toll on her grandma and the physical and mental health issues this has caused. She knows it is this way for all seniors in Assisted Living, which is why she created this project as a labor of love. Madison’s Sunshine for Seniors brings the much needed love and attention to these seniors by providing, music, cards, letters, pictures, and now fleece blankets, all as acts of kindness to make sure they know they are loved and remembered. Right now, it is more important than ever to bring the warmth of love and sunshine to as many as possible in this group of very special people. Many have little or no family support, and may suffer from health issues, such as dementia, like Madison’s grandma, the inspiration for this very personal and extra special project. With over 640 Assisted Living facilities in Washington State, Madison is dreaming BIG and has a goal to “Blanket The State of Washington With Sunshine For Seniors In Assisted Living”, one facility at a time! Madison is off to a great start and has enough blankets for everyone in two facilities; one in Puyallup where her grandma lives and one in Bonney Lake.........but to her, that is just the beginning and wants to do much more! Madison has also started a waitlist for Assisted Living facilities across the state and wants to provide blankets to at least one facility in each major city; Seattle, Spokane, Olympia, Vancouver, Yakima, Auburn, Tri-Cities, and so on. With your support, her family is prepared to help her personally “deliver the sunshine!” For every case of blankets purchased, 24 seniors will receive a fleece “blanket of sunshine” along with a hand signed card, with a special note reminding them they are loved, remembered and cherished. Please help Madison reach her goal to “Blanket The State of Washington With Sunshine For Seniors In Assisted Living”, one facility at a time! Please help spread the word and share the link to this wishlist on your social media, with businesses, friends, family, churches, etc. Thank you so much for your support!!!
