5 ways for teachers to save money

By: Jessica Urgiles-- 2015-09-28 12:00 pm --

Having enough money to purchase classroom supplies is a struggle every teacher experiences. The following options can help teachers save while stocking their classrooms this school year:

1. Grants

Grants and scholarships for funding educational initiatives do exist. The U.S. Department of Education is a great source to find grants for educators that are currently accepting applications.

2. Wish Lists

Many parents want to help, but simply don’t know what you need. A classroom wish list is a pressure-free way of allowing parents to donate school supplies. Include a link to the wish list in your email signature and classroom newsletter to remind parents you’re accepting donations.

3. Apps

We live in a mobile world — are you taking advantage of it? Apps like eBates and Shoparoo reward you just for shopping. While eBates will send you a personal check for online purchases, Shoparoo is a school-wide effort and the money is donated to the school.

4. Wholesalers

Buying teacher and school supplies in bulk is easily one of the most cost-effective ways of stocking your classroom. By using a wholesaler, you can purchase enough supplies for your entire classroom at significantly discounted prices.

5. Fundraisers

If you need extra cash to get through the school year, consider creating a fundraiser. Check out our fundraising ideas here to find one that works for you!
