Hello Everyone, My name is Stacy Caterina, I am a paramedic in Massachusetts and I am also a mom of 4 kids, 1 of my children is a 14yo nonverbal autistic child. In my community we respond to 911 calls a lot of time for "out of control child" most likely they will be on the spectrum. I see a huge need right now in our job and that is to give my co workers the tools they need to help keep our kiddos calm and to feel safe instead of it turning m ore violent and they need to be restrained for the patients own safety. Having gone through a pandemic this past year most if not all kids lost a lot of school time, learning, and socialization. My son has spent the better half of the year isolated in his room and what I believe is to be depression as well. Most of these children are regressing and they certainly won't be remembering that the police, fire and ems are their helpers. My hope is to fill these bags with things to help calm, provide fun, and a safe environment. I also will be providing the picture aka PECS boards that many of our nonverbal kids are using identifying the 1st responders. I am literally only a mom with hope in her heart to make the lives of our autism community++ and 1st responders work together in a safe manner.
