Many young adults and teens who are in state foster care due to homelessness or other familial situations out of their control bounce around from foster home to foster home with a garbage bag to move their very limited belongings. Those who come from low income or in "at risk" communities may have a bag or backpack that has been handed down, torn, or broken. But with no money to replace it, they make due to being able to get their school supplies back and forth from school or community programs. Our FREE 2 BE! The program allows us to provide a nice, new bag to the individuals who need them. In each bag we include hygienic products, a journal with colored pencils or pens, and for some who need specific items we may include new clothes ( pants, shirts, socks, underwear, shoes, and a hat or something more personal), along with a gift card to a bookstore. It is our belief that in providing something so small to us, yet so big to them, we are helping to make a positive difference in their lives. In doing so, we feel they will feel more confident, have a higher self esteem, and maybe when they are older, give back to the community in their own unique way.
